landlord & tenant update

Fremont has issued residential tenant protections.

Residential tenants experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19 should inform their landlords in writing before rent is due or within 5 days after rent is due to prevent an eviction. Tenants shall provide documents of financial hardship to their landlord. Tenants are liable to pay 50% of the back rent within 90 days after the expiration of the emergency ordinance and the remaining balance within 180 days. If tenants do not pay back rent within the specified time frame, then landlords are permitted to charge late fees or other fees associated with nonpayment of rent. Evictions of affected tenants and no-fault evictions are not permitted.
