landlord & tenant update

Concord has passed a moratorium protecting both residential and commercial tenants.

There is a temporary moratorium on evictions and rent increases for both residential and commercial properties. Any tenant who has experience a "substantial decrease in household or business income" must notify their landlord in writing at least 7 days before rent is due. Within 3 days of the due date the tenants must provide the landlord with written documentation (or other objectively verifiable means) of their reduction in income. Tenants have a 90 day repayment window for each month in arrears beginning the first day following the end of the moratorium. Tenants also cannot have their utilities shut off or be charged late fees for unpaid rent. This order will be in effect until May 31, 2020 and may be extended.
