landlord & tenant update

Benicia has enacted a city-specific ordinance protecting tenants.

Under the Benicia Coronavirus/COVID-19 eviction moratorium, Benicia tenants have 60 days following the expiration of the moratorium to pay any deferred rent.  Benicia landlords cannot charge or collect a late fee or penalty for deferred rent. In order to qualify for eviction protections, the tenants need to demonstrate an impact from the pandemic and provide written notice and documentation to landlord within 30 days of rent being due (https://www.ci.benicia.ca.us/vertical/sites/%7BF991A639-AAED-4E1A-9735-86EA195E2C8D%7D/uploads/20-1_Emergency_Eviction_Moratorium_Order.pdf).
